Belgium's shared electronics register
Electronics reporting in Belgium runs through one register that all three regions share. BeWeee is the Belgian WEEE producer register, where producers of electrical equipment declare what they place on the market, with Recupel operating as the scheme behind it.
Each region keeps its own rules, but the reporting happens in one place, jointly run by Flanders (OVAM), Wallonia and Brussels Environment.
What BeWeee covers
Electrical and electronic equipment under the regional rules that transpose the EU WEEE Directive. Photovoltaic panels also fall under regional producer responsibility, handled through PV CYCLE Belgium.
Who has to register
Producers that first place electrical or electronic equipment on the Belgian market, importers and foreign distance sellers selling to Belgian customers.
Reporting through BeWeee
- Confirm your equipment categories under the regional WEEE rules.
- If you are a foreign distance seller, appoint a Belgian authorised representative (see below).
- Register with Recupel and report your put-on-market data through BeWeee.
- Meet the regional deadlines, 1 July in Flanders and 31 May in Brussels and Wallonia.
Foreign sellers and Recupel
A foreign distance seller of electronics counts as the producer and must appoint an authorised representative in Belgium to take over registration and reporting.
Recupel offers to act as that representative for its members, free of charge, which is the route most foreign sellers take.
