Belgium's shared electronics reporting tool
Electronics reporting in Belgium runs through one tool that all three regions use. BeWeee is the Belgian WEEE reporting platform, set up in 2018 by industry bodies including Recupel and Agoria, where put-on-market and e-waste data reach the regions. If you are a Recupel member, Recupel reports your data into it for you.
Each region keeps its own rules, but the reporting happens in one place. The three regional authorities (OVAM in Flanders, SPW in Wallonia and Brussels Environment) sit on BeWeee's board as observers.
What BeWeee covers
Electrical and electronic equipment under the regional rules that transpose the EU WEEE Directive. Photovoltaic panels also fall under regional producer responsibility, handled through PV CYCLE Belgium.
Who has to register
Producers that first place electrical or electronic equipment on the Belgian market, importers and foreign distance sellers selling to Belgian customers.
Reporting through BeWeee
- Confirm your equipment categories under the regional WEEE rules.
- If you are a foreign distance seller, appoint a Belgian authorised representative (see below).
- Join Recupel and declare your put-on-market data to it. Recupel then reports into BeWeee on your behalf, so members need take no action there.
- If you report yourself, meet the regional deadlines: before 1 July in Flanders and before 31 May in Brussels. Confirm the Walloon date with SPW.
Foreign sellers and Recupel
A foreign distance seller of electronics counts as the producer and must appoint an authorised representative in Belgium to take over registration and reporting.
Recupel offers to act as that representative for its members, free of charge, which is the route most foreign sellers take.
