One register for six streams

Denmark folds what other countries split. DPA is the Danish EPR producer register, and one registration covers every waste stream from packaging to fishing gear. You join it through the business portal virk.dk before you sell.

It is run by Dansk Producentansvar, an independent not-for-profit set up under the Danish Environmental Protection Act.

What one DPA registration covers

Each stream enters the register on its own timeline and reports on its own dates.

Stream In scope since How it works
Packaging Financial responsibility 1 Oct 2025 Reporting since 1 Jun 2025, mandatory collective schemes
Electronics (WEEE) Long-standing Register before selling, annual report by 31 Mar
Batteries 18 Aug 2025 Under EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542
Vehicles (ELV) Current regime from 2015 Importers of cars and vans up to 3,500 kg
Single-use plastics 5 Jan 2023 Litter-cleanup fees, extended 1 Jan 2025
Fishing gear 1 Jan 2025 Register at least 14 days before selling

Note: packaging phased in over three steps, DPA registration in 2024, reporting from 1 June 2025, and full financial responsibility from 1 October 2025 (Emballagebekendtgørelsen BEK 1146/2025).

Who must register

Any producer or importer that first places one of the six product types on the Danish market registers before selling. That includes distance sellers shipping to Danish customers from abroad.

The test is where the product enters the market, not where your company sits. One stream has its own timing. Fishing-gear producers must be registered at least 14 days before their first sale, so start early if that is you.

How to register with DPA

Registration runs through virk.dk and follows the same path whichever streams you fall under.

  1. Work out which of the six streams your products belong to.
  2. If you have no Danish establishment, appoint an authorised representative first (see below).
  3. Register in DPA's producer register on virk.dk before you start selling.
  4. Join the mandatory collective scheme for each of your streams.
  5. Report your volumes on each stream's own schedule.

Denmark issues no separate producer-number format. Your registration is keyed to your Danish CVR company number, and an authorised representative registers under its own CVR.

Registering from abroad

Whether you need a Danish representative depends on where your company is based, not on how much you sell.

An EU company without a Danish establishment that distance-sells to Danish end-users must appoint a Danish-established authorised representative, holding its own Danish CVR, in the register. A non-EU distance seller registers in DPA directly.

What it costs and when you report

DPA does not set the fees. Your cost comes from the collective schemes you join for each stream, plus a few stream-specific levies, and the reporting dates vary by stream.

Obligation When Applies to
WEEE annual report 31 March Electronics producers
Fishing-gear annual report 31 March Fishing-gear producers
Fishing-gear registration 14 days before first sale New fishing-gear producers
Packaging financial responsibility Live since 1 Oct 2025 Packaging producers

Frequently asked questions about DPA

Short answers to what producers ask before they register.

Which products need DPA registration?

Six streams share the register. They are packaging, electronics, batteries, vehicles, single-use plastics and fishing gear. Place any of them on the Danish market and you register before selling.

Do I need a Danish representative?

An EU company with no Danish establishment must appoint a Danish-established authorised representative with its own CVR number. A non-EU distance seller registers in DPA directly.

What does DPA registration cost?

DPA sets no single fee. Your cost comes from the collective schemes you join for each stream, plus levies such as the single-use-plastic tobacco-filter fee.

Is my DPA number the same as my CVR?

In effect, yes. DPA publishes no separate producer-ID format, so your registration is tied to your Danish CVR number.
