Three streams one Norwegian portal

Norway keeps producer responsibility to a tighter set than its neighbours. Produsentansvar is the Norwegian EPR register, the Environment Agency's portal for three streams: electronics, batteries and vehicles.

Norwegian rules make membership of an approved producer responsibility organisation compulsory for each stream. The portal issues a producer number and holds your compliance record.

What the portal covers

  • Electronics: join an approved PRO such as Norsirk, RENAS or Eurovironment, then register.
  • Batteries: register before the first battery reaches the market, through an approved PRO such as Batteriretur, Renas Batteri or Batteriretur EV.
  • End-of-life vehicles: Autoretur is the single approved scheme, and every vehicle importer must be a member.

Who has to register

Producers and importers that first place electronics, batteries or vehicles on the Norwegian market, distance sellers included.

Getting a producer number

  1. Confirm your stream and its approved PRO.
  2. If you have no Norwegian VAT number, appoint a representative that holds one (see below).
  3. Join the approved PRO for your stream.
  4. Register in the national portal and receive your producer number.
  5. Report put-on-market data as required.

Foreign producers and Norwegian VAT

Foreign producers must join an approved PRO, and a Norwegian VAT number is needed to register directly. Without one, the producer appoints an authorised representative that holds Norwegian VAT.

Norwegian terms you will meet

  • Produsentansvar: extended producer responsibility, and the portal's name.
  • Miljødirektoratet: the Norwegian Environment Agency, which runs it.
  • Produsentnummer: the producer number the portal issues.
  • Autoretur: the approved vehicle scheme.
