Spain's WEEE register - RII-AEE (Registro Integrado Industrial)

Spain registers electronics producers separately from packaging. RII-AEE, held by the Ministry of Industry, is where producers of electrical and electronic equipment sign up before selling into Spain.

Spain's electronics register run by Industry

Selling electronics into Spain means one specific register, and it is not the environment ministry's. RII-AEE is the Spanish WEEE register, the electronics section of the Registro Integrado Industrial, held by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

It sits alongside MITECO's product register, not inside it. Electronics producers deal with Industry, while packaging producers deal with the environment ministry.

What RII-AEE covers

Electrical and electronic equipment under Royal Decreto 110/2015, which transposes the EU WEEE Directive, on a regime running since 2005. Producers or their authorised representatives register and report the quantities they place on the market each quarter.

Who has to register

Producers that first place electrical or electronic equipment on the Spanish market, importers and distance sellers included.

Getting into RII-AEE

  1. Confirm your equipment falls under RD 110/2015.
  2. If you are not established in Spain, appoint a Spanish authorised representative first (see below).
  3. Register in RII-AEE through the Ministry of Industry's electronic office.
  4. Report the quantities placed on the market each quarter.
  5. Join a collective WEEE scheme to meet collection and recycling duties.

Foreign electronics producers

Producers not established in Spain, distance sellers included, register through a representante autorizado established in Spain, as RD 110/2015 requires. The representative carries the registration and the quarterly reporting.

Local terms

  • RII-AEE: Registro Integrado Industrial, sección AEE.
  • AEE (aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos): electrical and electronic equipment.
  • RAEE: waste electronics, the Spanish equivalent of WEEE.

Spain's other producer registers

Spain splits producer duties across two ministries. Packaging, tyres and single-use plastics register in RPP at the environment ministry, and batteries in RII-PyA here at Industry. This page is the electronics register.
