Denmark's biggest producer duty only reached full force recently. Danish EPR compliance changed most in October 2025, when packaging responsibility became fully financial and collective schemes turned mandatory, joining streams that have run for years.
Most duties register in one place, DPA, the Danish Producer Responsibility body. One stream, tyres, sits deliberately outside it.

Where your products fall
The DPA register covers packaging, electronics, batteries, vehicles, single-use plastics and fishing gear. Electronics have run since 2006, packaging is the newcomer that phased in across 2024 and 2025.
Packaging is worth pinning down because it moved fast. Registration opened in 2024, reporting began in June 2025, and full financial responsibility with mandatory collective schemes started on 1 October 2025.
Tyres are the odd one out. They run on a producer fee that funds collection through an industry fund, which is a take-back scheme rather than classic EPR, so tyres stay off the DPA register entirely.
One register for the rest
Everything except tyres routes through DPA, where you register before placing products on the market and report each year. Deadlines vary by stream. Packaging is due 1 June, batteries 30 June, and electronics and fishing gear 31 March.
The timing rules bite. Fishing-gear producers must register with DPA fourteen days before they start selling, and batteries now require membership of a mandatory collective scheme for portable and light-transport cells.
Who has to comply
The duty falls on producers and importers placing goods on the Danish market, and on foreign distance sellers shipping to Danish customers.
A seller without a Danish establishment registers through an authorised representative, who takes on the DPA registration and reporting under their own Danish company number.
What changes next
The pipeline is shaped by the packaging switch and the EU layer:
- 12 August 2026: the EU packaging regulation PPWR applies directly in Denmark.
- 17 June 2027: Denmark must transpose the revised EU waste directive, the step before textile EPR.
- Around April 2028: a textile and footwear scheme must be operating, expected to sit with DPA.
Denmark has not yet adopted its textile implementing rules, so the register assignment for that stream is not final.
Frequently asked questions about EPR in Denmark
Short answers to what producers ask most.
What is EPR in Denmark?
Producer responsibility across six streams registered with DPA, plus a separate tyre take-back scheme, with packaging now under full financial responsibility since October 2025.
What is the Danish EPR register?
DPA, the Danish Producer Responsibility body, where producers register through virk.dk before selling and report annually. Tyres are the exception and stay outside it.
Is packaging EPR fully in force in Denmark?
Yes. It phased in through 2024 and 2025, and full financial responsibility with mandatory collective schemes applied from 1 October 2025.
Do foreign sellers need a Danish representative?
Yes. A producer without a Danish establishment appoints an authorised representative to hold the DPA registration and file the annual reports.
Does Denmark have textile EPR yet?
Not yet. It is required by the revised EU waste directive with a scheme due around April 2028, and Denmark has not yet adopted its implementing rules.
