What Danish textiles EPR will cover
Textiles EPR in Denmark is coming, but it is not here yet. No Danish rules have been adopted, so nothing is in force and no producer duty applies today.
The obligation flows from the EU, and the whole timeline is set there. Miljøstyrelsen already lists textiles as a producer-responsibility area.
Denmark has not yet adopted its textiles rules, so the register (widely expected to be DPA) and the exact duties are not final.
Who the Danish scheme will cover
Based on the EU directive, the scheme is expected to reach the businesses that place textiles and footwear on the Danish market:
- Producers and importers of clothing, household textiles and footwear
- Brands selling under their own name into Denmark
- Online sellers shipping textiles to Danish buyers
The exact Danish definitions will be set by the implementing rules, so treat these as the direction of travel, not settled law.
Where the money will go in Denmark
Once live, the scheme will make producers fund the collection, sorting and recycling of used textiles, in line with the EU model. The fee level and its structure are not yet set in Denmark.
The point of the fee is to shift the cost of textile waste from municipalities to the businesses that put textiles on the market.
How to prepare in Denmark now
Nothing to file yet, but there is groundwork worth doing before the rules land:
- Map the textile and footwear volumes you place on the Danish market.
- Watch for the Danish implementing bekendtgørelse and the register it names, likely DPA which already runs EPR in Denmark.
